April 30 – May 4 | Performance of The Grand Duke

I would like to invite you to my theater company’s Spring performance of The Grand Duke. One week away from the opening night of The Grand Duke, this version isn’t just Gilbert and Sullivan’s Grand Duke. It’s the Blue Hill Troupe’s Grand Duke, a Grand Duke unlike any other. The script was originally adapted by our own members. The production concept reimagines the story in a new time and place. We are proud to be the only theater company that donates all its proceeds to benefit a charity partner, and our charity partner this year is The Young People’s Chorus of New York.

The show will run from April 30 – May 4, 2025, at BARRIO El Teatro of El Museo del Barrio, 1230 Fifth Avenue (Between 104th and 105th Street), New York, NY 10029

Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Grand Duke; or, The Statutory Duel
Written by William S. Gilbert
Composed by Sir Arthur S. Sullivan
Directed & Choreographed by Gary Slavin
Assistant Directed & Assistant Choreographed by Janet Bushor
Music Direction by David Schmidt
Photos by Jovani Demetrie McCleary

Gilbert & Sullivan’s final collaboration may be the duo’s topsy-turviest! Laced with their trademark social satire and romantic misadventures, this treasure of an operetta (in BHT’s performance edition from 2005) boasts a sumptuous score and a zany plot to overthrow the government by—who else?—a troupe of actors.
