GC Digital Initiatives is now accepting applications new fellows to join its Videography Fellows program during the 2019-2020 academic year. Ph.D. students with digital video editing and camera skills are invited to apply. The Videography Fellows Program promotes the scholarly activities of GC programs, centers, and initiatives by creating short promotional videos and shorter clips in conjunction with programs’ ongoing activities. Other projects sometimes include filming events such as lectures, colloquia, and conferences, and making them publicly accessible. Recently, the GC Videography Fellows have been working with students to produce 1-minute videos about their dissertation and research projects. We’re looking for self-starters with some previous experience in camera work or video editing who are enthusiastic about the program’s mission to produce short video features about student and faculty research for audiences that include prospective students and faculty, colleagues and peers outside of the GC, as well as the public at-large.A sample of the GC Videography Fellows’ work can be found on their Vimeo channel. Qualifications
Highly qualified applicants will have a minimum of two years of experience with Final Cut Pro (Preferably 10) or Adobe Premiere and/or have two years of camera experience, including best practices for lighting and sound. Candidates should possess a strong sense of visual storytelling, excellent interpersonal communication skills, and demonstrated experience collaborating with a team. Fellows must available and able to film events and interviews independently.
Activities
- Collaborating with the GC Digital Initiatives, EOs, and other GC offices to develop videos that promote GC students, faculty, and programs
- Filming program events and interviews
- Editing video and sound for entire events, shorter excerpts, and promotional videos
- Compressing and uploading completed videos to social media platform
- Eligibility
- Full-time Graduate Center doctoral students of any level (1, 2, or 3) are eligible. They may not hold another CUNY graduate assistantship at the same time they hold this fellowship.
Appointment
This fellowship will provide a total of $34,175 per year. This funding will include a Graduate Assistant B appointment and a stipend, along within in-state tuition remission if the fellow is within the first 10 registered semesters of study and eligibility to purchase NYSHIP health insurance. Fellows will be required to work a total of 450 non-teaching hours during the academic year (an average of 15 hours per week). They may teach one course per semester at a CUNY college.
