May 10 | DTSA 2018 Conference “Objects of Study”

The Doctoral Theatre Students’ Association presents its 2018 conference “Objects of Study: Methods and Materiality in Theatre and Performance Studies” on May 10, 2018, at the Martin E. Segal Theatre, The Graduate Center, CUNY. All are invited to a conversation with eminent theatre and performance scholars Katherine Behar (Baruch, CUNY), Maaike Bleeker (Utrecht), Rebecca Schneider (Brown), and Soyoung Yoon (New School) on the concepts and questions emerging from the conference working sessions. Then, the conference will culminate in a performance created for the occasion by the fabulous (and award-winning) choreographer Larissa Velez-Jackson and her company. The evening program is available at cuny.is/objects[cuny.is].

Due to limited seating, please RSVP before May 8thhttps://goo.gl/forms/G7t7vl2v2P0Iw3Tq1[goo.gl]

We invite all to share the proceedings of the day-long working sessions with emerging scholars from across the US and overseas. Stemming from (but not limited to) theatre and performance studies, our conference issues a challenge to the common understanding of scholarly work as focused on an “object of study.” In light of the recent reconceptualization of objects and materiality, we ask what are the emerging meanings of “performance,” as well as those of “study.”

We welcome those who would like to audit the paper discussions in the morning (10am-12pm). Please contact us at dtsaconf@gmail.com.[dtsaconf@gmail.com.] The full program of papers will be up by May 1st.
