Fall 2024/Spring 2025

Purpose

Students will work closely with staff at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. Located in Harlem, the Schomburg Center is recognized as one of the world’s leading research institutions focusing on African American, African Diaspora, and African experience. Throughout the fall semester, fellows will work primarily on-site at the Schomburg assisting staff to identify materials within their extensive collections that might be digitized in order to make them more available to the general public. In the spring semester fellows will be required to give informal presentations on their findings as part of the IRADAC Fellows Symposium.

Stipend & Conditions:

Each fellow will receive a $10,000 stipend. IRADAC/Schomburg Digitization Fellows will coordinate with the IRADAC Fellows Program recipients in organizing and participating in the IRADAC Fellows Symposium which takes place in the spring semester. Additional meetings with the IRADAC Fellows are expected.

Eligibility

Offered to level II or III Graduate Center Ph.D. students with primary research interests in any aspect of the African Diaspora.

Faculty reference letter (from the Program EO or dissertation advisor) describing the research and the student’s progress should be submitted at https://www.gc.cuny.edu/iradacfellowsapp
