Atmospheres of Violence
Harvard Film & Visual Studies Graduate Conference
May 3–5, 2023
The program in Film and Visual Studies at Harvard University is pleased to announce Atmospheres of Violence, a graduate conference that asks: In a world teeming with images of brutality and destruction, how can we look away from spectacular violence and toward the atmospheres that produce its representations?
The conference begins on May 3 at 6:00pm with a film program and artist keynote by Colectivo Los Ingrávidos, and continues with keynote talks by Pooja Rangan on May 4 at 4:00pm and Yuriko Furuhata on May 5 at 4:15pm.
Throughout the days on May 9 and 10, conference proceedings will bring together scholars and practitioners working across film and media studies; the history of art and architecture; visual culture; critical studies of race and ethnicity; and postcolonial studies. Please see the website for a detailed schedule.
For those who cannot attend in person, films by Colectivo Los Ingrávidos will be streaming on the website throughout.
